The VERDICT™

De’Longhi EC685m Review:

Product Description:

The first thing we’ll talk about this De’Longhi Dedica review is what type of machine it is. The De’Longhi EC685m is a pump type coffee machine with a 15-bar pressure system. To those of you who are thinking we’re talking nuclear science, allow us to explain.

The pump coffee machines are an upgrade from the piston type machines. The piston-type machines can heat the stored water to a certain temperature. Usually, the pistons can hold up to four shots. Once the water is heated adequately, it must be pulled through the grind using a lever.

The piston system is believed to be the best method by some, but others beg to differ. According to their argument, the piston type coffee machines don’t offer enough pressure to brew the perfect espresso.

This is where the pump system comes in. The pump coffee machines have two systems, one of which maintains the temperature, and the other maintains the ideal pressure. Furthermore, the water of the pump coffee machine is kept at two different temperatures, steam, and brewing.

Coffee machines with 9 bars of pressure are more available. However, the De’Longhi EC685m comes with 15 bar pressure, which ensures better extraction of the coffee essence from the grinds.

The De’Longhi EC685m also houses a Thermoblock. The Thermoblock does an incredible job at keeping the water at the perfect temperature. Whilst reviewing the unit for this De’Longhi Dedica EC685m review, we found that the unit never fails to keep the water at the perfect temperature. This consistency allows the user to enjoy cups of coffee, where each one and every one of them tastes amazing.

However, it goes without saying that how a cup of coffee will taste is subjected to personal preference, and not everyone may not like the coffee brewed in pump coffee machines.

Though it’s a pump style coffee machine, the De’Longhi EC685m is designed to be different. It’s much more compact compared to other pump coffee machines. This allows the users to house them in tight spaces on the kitchen table. If you don’t have a lot of space in your kitchen, this coffee maker might be able to help you out.

To make the De’Longhi EC685m compact, they had to bring changes to a few features. Fortunately, the changes don’t make the machine any less user-friendly. For example, you won’t face any problem using the steam wand that’s placed at them sideways.

Then again, the buttons of pump coffee machines are usually found on the front, but you’ll find these on the top in the case of the De’Longhi EC685m. You can choose whether you want to steam, single-shot espressos, or double-shot espressos with these buttons.

The three keys are backlit, and you’ll find the relevant symbols on them, denoting the purpose of that switch. The lights will glow when the coffee machine is functioning, and they’ll blink once the machine is finished brewing.

The De’Longhi EC685m coffee machine comes with a pair of filters. The single-shot filter is quite shallow, and it can hold 7 grams of the ground at maximum. On the other hand, the double-shot filter can hold either 14 grams or 12 grams of grind.

As we’ve said earlier, you’ll find the manual frother of the coffee machine on the left. This steaming wand is more than capable of frothing the milk, making it a great machine for brewing cappuccino.

Situated at the front of the machine is the brew head of the De’Longhi EC685m. It comes with a convenient handle with which it can be grabbed easily, and you can insert the grinds through this and can brew espressos. As it’s made with a thermally insulating material, the handle doesn’t heat up while brewing.

The drip tray comes with a very convenient feature. If the tray gets full, you’ll see a red object floating up. This will help you understand when the drip tray is full and needs clearing.

You’d need to follow a complicated process to brew perfectly with this coffee machine, and you’ll need some time to get used to it. However, pump coffee machines weren’t built for getting coffee instantly; that’s a purpose served by the instant coffee makers. Instead, the pump machines require some experience to be operated properly.

Now that you know about the functions of the coffee machine, it’s high time we talked about the quality of the coffee brewed with this machine. As we expected, the brew has a thick crema, which indicates that the grind is extracted perfectly. The brew also offers a beautiful aroma, which is very impressive.

Another thing we noticed while doing this De’Longhi Dedica EC685m review is that the coffee maker is equally capable of making espresso and cappuccinos.

Product Design and Quality:

The De’Longhi EC685m features a compact design and a durable build. Although this product falls in a comparatively cheaper price range, the product doesn’t feel cheap at all. Each part of this coffee machine is built to perfection, and although the coffee machine doesn’t feel premium, the coffee does! This led us to assume that the De’Longhi wanted to create a machine to destroy the competitors at the low-price ranges, and it succeeded!

Verdict:

So, it all comes down to the question, “Should you get the De’Longhi EC685m coffee machine for yourself?” We’ll try our best to provide the answer in our De’Longhi Dedica EC685m review.

Are you looking for a coffee maker that’ll provide coffee instantly? Or do you need well-brewed coffee with a sweet aroma?  If you’re looking for convenience, this coffee machine will disappoint you. Unless you have prior experience with pump-driven coffee machines, you’ll need to spend some time with it to get used to it. On the other hand, if you’re willing to put in the effort to get a well-brewed cup of coffee, this is suitable for you.

Will this coffee machine provide the taste you’re looking for? If you haven’t tried any pump-driven coffee machine before, it’s hard to say. If you already know that you love coffee brewed with pump-driven machines, you’ll love the De’Longhi EC685m. It provides all the bells and whistles you can ask for, and it also features a higher pressure of 15bar. Although pressure higher than 10bar seldom matters, some people prefer having the extra punch.

When we were preparing the De’Longhi Dedica EC685m review, what really impressed us is the pricing of the De’Longhi EC685m. This isn’t a product you find in such a price range. If you’re looking for a bang for buck coffee machine, the De’Longhi EC685m is the one for you.

The only problem found in the product while writing the De’Longhi Dedica review was that some users reported that they found problems with the buttons. This is a problem for sure, but it can be fixed easily. Any technician will be able to take care of this circuit board malfunction.

Fortunately, the De’Longhi EC685m coffee machine doesn’t exhibit any problem regarding the mechanical parts. This is a positive factor because any problem regarding the mechanical parts, such as Thermoblock or frother, can be hard and expensive to fix, and they ruin the taste of the coffee.

Conclusion:

To conclude, we can say in this De’Longhi Dedica review that we highly recommend the De’Longhi EC685m coffee machine. It’s a bang for buck coffee machine that offers all the features a coffee enthusiast would ask from a coffee maker.

If you’re looking for a coffee machine in a budget, we urge you to take the De’Longhi EC685m coffee machine. However, if you don’t like the brews out of a pump is driven coffee machine, you probably won’t like it. If you haven’t tried any sort of coffee machine before, we’re almost certain that you’ll be happy with this, as most people prefer pump-driven coffee machines. With that, we’d like to conclude our De’Longhi EC685m review.
