When it comes to searching for the very best wireless on ear headphones there are hundreds of products to choose from. Beats have been the headphone brand of choice for many years, and for good reason. Their products are durable, stylish and offer an almost unrivalled sound quality, and when they merged with Apple five years ago Beats benefitted from their innovations and technology. The Beats Solo 3 wireless headphones were one of the first products to be released after Beats were taken over by Apple, and they have since been one of the most popular wireless headphones on the market.

Why we don't like it 👎
- Sound quality is the same as the previous model, Solo 2, and lacks detail and subtlety
- 5mm headphone head phone cable provided in the box but no Apple lightning connector to support newer iPhone models
- Price tag is higher than many other similar head phone products
- High volumes can result in sound leakage
The VERDICT™
When Beats produced the Solo 3 wireless headphones, they took the Solo 2 which so many people already know and love and improved some of the lacking features whilst leaving other aspects identical. New and improved features include an impressive 40-hour battery life, effortless Bluetooth pairing and increased range. Despite these added benefits, the Beats Solo 3 wireless headphones are not at the top of the game when it comes to sound quality.
Sound Quality
The Beats brand is well known for prioritising bass over all other aspects of sound, and the Solo 3 wireless headphones are no exception. The sound quality is very similar to the Solo 2 and is full bodied with a clean and clear midrange. The focus with these headphones is on fun listening, and they definitely do pack a punch upon first use. Over time however, it becomes clear that they lack subtlety and detail.
Design
DesignFrom a visual point of view, the Solo 3 wireless headphones are nothing revolutionary. They look almost identical to older Beats models which is in no way a bad thing. Their style is sleek and effortlessly fashionable, and thanks to being produced from plastic instead of metal they are comfortably lightweight. The headphones can be neatly folded to fit into the carry case that is included in the box and will the snap back to size easily.
Battery Life
The battery life on the Beats Solo 3 wireless headphones is easily the biggest benefit. A battery life of 40 hours is almost unheard of in the wireless headphones market, and a huge improvement on the 12 hours from the Solo 2. They also feature a ‘Fast Fuel’ setting which converts just five minutes of charging into up to 3 hours of listening.
